Serial to Ethernet Connector

An excellent option for communication between Ethernet-enabled devices and legacy software that only handles serial ports. It’s easy and simple, and above all, 100% compatible with Windows Server.

A little outside the use case of most of the reviewers, I found Serial to Ethernet Connector while working on a personal project to set up older Windows XP-era games in multiplayer. We have one system on original hardware and multiple VMs on more recent hardware (read: lacking physical serial ports). With some games need a serial connection for multiplayer and the systems are already networked together, this was the perfect solution. I found it intuitive to use and it worked exactly as I needed out of the box. Legacy support for down to Windows XP is perfect in this case and the free licenses for non-commercial use is much appreciated!

I use a serial to Ethernet virtual port in a system to control a remote HF antenna rotator over the internet. The antenna rotator is typically controlled on-site via a serial COM port with a rotator app. In my use case the rotator is at 100 mile distance from the controlling PC. To manage I use a serial-to-Ethernet server at the remote antenna site and in the controlling site the Electronic Team serial to Ethernet app provides the required virtual port for the rotator PC application.

First I had some problems with overlapping virtual serial ports because Windows (11) OS is rather bad in managing them. After deleting the old/non-used serial ports the virtual port created by ET app worked perfectly.

The ET app has worked reliably and is also easy to configure. Reliability is obviously a key requirement in my application because of the remote set-up. Because of this good experience I plan to start controlling the remote antenna amplifier also via the same concept.
