Serial Port Monitor ActiveX Saved My Company Lots of Time

June 21, 2010

I’m Dag Hoven, and I am one of the owners of Penguin Programs. I graduated with a Master’s in Engineering Physics M. Sc and then transitioned into programming over thirty years ago.

I was in need of a reliable and convenient SPM due to my career writing numerous programs that required serial ports with external instrumentation. Modern programmers now use USBs in tandem with COM-port drivers. My issue was with programs (like synching programs for smart-phones, as an example) which latch onto COM-ports and cause the communication to fail.

I wanted to be able to communicate to the users that they can’t open COM-ports because they’ve already been opened by another program; then being able to advise them to close their programs or change the COM-port that they’ve assigned before making another attempt with Active X.

After Google searching through copious amounts of “not quite what I was looking for’s”, I ultimately chose to download Serial Port Monitor because it could be installed onto Active X- which was EXACTLY what I wanted. I’m really glad to have found this company, as they seemed to be the only providers of such a powerful and feature-filled SPM. Their easy to set-up software and intuitive UI made it a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to using it again in the future.

I love tracking data flow with Serial Port Monitor. I work in engineering, and precision and efficiency is kind of a big deal. I get both with SPM software

SPM Helped Me Find Serial Port Communication Between PCs and Equipment.

June 18, 2009

I was quite familiar with the standard communication signal known as the RS232 Standard, and how this signal only deals with the data communications from computer to another computer, but what I was mainly curious about was how to find out where the COM1/DB9 serial port was being utilized with a PLC application.

This was important to me, being in the PLC industry, and wanting to find a way of tracking the data transferred from computers to other industrial instrumentation equipment. Thankfully, after a bit of searching, I found the exact tool to help me do that in the form of the Serial Port Monitor.

Mainly used for RS232, 422, and 485, I find SPM software is ideal for automation engineers, specialized in several industries, looking to improve their work-flow and efficiency.

I’m so happy I found this software, it’s very easy to set-up, and the User-interface is sleek and unobtrusive to deal with. Serial Port Monitoring software gives me the freedom to keep track of multiple serial port communications- and even record them for later use.

If you’re an engineer, a software developer, hardware developer- so on, I can’t recommend the Serial Port Monitor enough.

Thanks for making such a helpful tool!

I often work with digital serial ports, and such products are my go-to. Serial Port Monitor has a cool “sniffer” function that locates open serial ports, as well as letting you record data.

I like that Serial Port Monitor lets you track and record multiple serial port communications at once. Being able to save data collected for later is really helpful when troubleshooting and debugging
